Overview

The Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre-apprenticeship at Wodonga TAFE is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the foundational skills needed to kickstart a career in the construction industry. Throughout this course, students engage in a dynamic learning environment where teamwork and effective communication are emphasized.

Under the guidance of experienced instructors, students learn the ins and outs of building subfloor framing, including the essential techniques for constructing bearers and joists. Hands-on practical sessions allow students to actively participate in creating and dismantling basic timber structures, gaining invaluable experience in real-world construction scenarios.

The curriculum covers a range of essential topics, including wall and roof framing, providing students with a solid understanding of key construction principles and techniques. Through a combination of theory and practical training, students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in a variety of entry-level roles, or to progress into an Apprenticeship within the building and construction industry.

2025 Dates: February or July start Time: 8.30am-4.30pm | Days: Tuesday -Thursday (3 days per week)

Requirements

Students must be at least 16 years of age. Students will be required to wear appropriate clothing (long pants, hi-vis shirt), as well as work safe boots.

Assessment

The assessments will enable students to demonstrate the underpinning knowledge, skills and attributes required to meet the course outcomes. You will be assessed through a combination of practical work skills and theory testing, through observation, class exercises, participation, written assignments and tests.

Skills developed

Workplace safety, documents, plans, and site induction
Building structures, setting out, sub-floor framing, wall framing, roof framing
Introduction to scaffolding and working with platforms, hands tools and power tools.
External cladding, window and door frames, interior fixings.
Formwork for concreting and leveling.
Demolition and environmental sustainability in carpentry.

By successfully completing this course you will receive an AQF Qualification.

Fees

From 1 January 2019, Free TAFE for Priority Courses is a Victorian Government program that will pay your tuition fees to study in this selected course at Wodonga TAFE, if you’re eligible, subject to minimum numbers.
